As I studied the history and influence of the 13th-century Magna Carta, I began to see patterns that have repeated themselves for centuries.
Today, in the United States and around the world, many countries are struggling because leaders and institutions are failing to follow the laws, rights, and principles that helped shape modern ideas of justice, accountability, and limits on power.
The video below highlights many fascinating parallels, including issues of property, power, control over people, and the kinds of abuses that eventually helped lead to popular revolt in the early 14th century.
Now, in our own time, we are facing a would-be tyrant, a man who behaves as though he is above the law, lies openly, misuses public power, and pushes our institutions toward something far more dangerous. Many of us see it. Many of us know it. And the damage being done is not only political, but moral and legal as well.
I believe some of the most troubling actions taking place today are a direct attack on rights that were fought for over generations in the United States. We are watching old injustices return in new forms, and too many people in power are allowing it to happen.
What concerns me most is that when injustice, corruption, and abuse of power go too far, history shows that people eventually rise up. A people’s revolt becomes more likely when leaders refuse truth, fairness, and the rule of law.
That is why every registered voter must become part of the pushback now. We cannot sit quietly while deception, cruelty, and authoritarian behavior grow stronger. The answer must be lawful, determined, organized resistance by the people.
Good people of every race, creed, and color must stand firm and reject what we openly see being done to our country and to both houses of Congress. We the people cannot afford to miss this moment. We must rise to become part of the solution to what may be one of the most serious and harmful threats in the 250-year history of the United States of America.
